Principal's Welcome
Mr. Hall Miller
Dear Mother of God School Families,

I am honored to be serving as the President and Principal of Mother of God School this year. I have been associated with the school for 23 of its 26 year history; 22 years with my own children, and 18 years in various Board leadership roles. I've been a major donor, served on the School Board chairing several committees, waxed floors, constructed sidewalks, overseen building expansion and plant renovation.

In my professional life I have founded 3 successful businesses in automotive supply chain, commercial real estate development and labor contracting. At the age of 48 I sold my largest business to a Fortune 500 company and had the sense that God was calling me to a change in direction.

Mr. MillerI am thrilled to be Principal because I love our school and its mission. Each day I am excited by thinking about where we can be in 3 years, in 5 years. This school is a gem with so much potential. If people make an organization, then we are a great organization, because the faculty and staff of this school are superb. They are so overqualified to be doing what they are doing! 15 advanced degrees, years of experience and dedication. People are here because they believe in the mission and they love this school.

As an entrepreneur delving into each area of school operation, I am asking, how can we do what we are doing better? During the 2014-2015 school year, I will personally delve into every area of the school’s operation, working with faculty, staff, Board members and parents to take a fresh look at improvement. Our new school accreditation, AdvancED, calls for continuous improvement plans to be developed, assessed and continually adjusted.

The Miller's with Cardinal WuerlLast summer we started this process with our Pre-K program. As a result, enrollment has increased 20%! But, more than that, over half of our students are now in standardized, all-day programs that will allow our Kindergarten to begin at a higher level next year. Teachers in our primary grades are taking advantage of smaller classes to teach more content to their students, advancing them further. We continue assessing curriculum from Kindergarten through the Middle School program. Improvements over these past few years include a one-to-one laptop program, with access to digital textbooks which allows for multiple learning styles, source document access and online research. Project Based Learning and advanced Math classes have brought a STEM focus to our Middle School Program. But we are not content. Some STEM-heavy programs neglect strong Humanities education, to the students’ detriment. This year our Middle School is introducing a new vocabulary program focusing on Latin and Greek roots of the English language, to build greater vocabulary and language comprehension. Our eighth grade is piloting a history series, developed in conjunction with Ave Maria University, utilizing more of a Classical narrative method.

Educational excellence is the goal. This means teaching students how to think, how to learn, how to study; how to reason, to write, to communicate well. Science and technology are essential to 21st century education but not to the neglect of a strong liberal arts education that develops strong reason, logic and communication skills. Mother of God School continues building strong math and science programs while also focusing heavily on the Humanities.

The one thing I want every parent to know is that I want to hear from you. Call me, email me, catch me at carpool or at various school functions. I want to know what you like and what you don’t like. I want your ideas and suggestions. I want you to know that Mother of God School is your school.

There is much more that could be said; in the interest of brevity I have tried to keep this letter short. Please, I ask for your prayers for this school, for me, and for all who work here.  Know that we pray for you and your children every day. Thank you for choosing Mother of God School!
